ENGLISH 1

“To acquire knowledge, one must study;but to acquire wisdom, one must observe.” I have learnt a lot of things from my dear lecturer, Miss Thivilojana. She has taught us about the truth meaning of English and I really enjoy learning English in class.  My favorite English assignment is writing essay. Although it's not as good as those who can do a pretty good job in writing essay, I have tried my very best in writing every essay assignment. If I am not mistaken, there are five main prewriting techniques which are free writing, making a list, questioning, clustering and preparing a scratch outline. 

Among those techniques, I prefer to do free writing. This is because I can write my own essay freely without restriction and regulations. I have learnt to think logically and creatively when writing each essay. Besides, there are some really useful vocabularies and transition words which I can use in my essay. They just make the essay looks more interesting and the reader will not get bored easily when reading it. Proper using of those helpful techniques can really improve my essay a lot and I always remind myself not to overuse it or the essay will be out of topic.

For the workshop, after attending it, I have learnt how to use citation well when writing an essay. Meanwhile, I have also done some researches on how to use citation properly and the benefits of using citation in an essay. It really helps a lot in my essay and I am really happy about it.

ASSIGNMENT 1- ESSAY WRITING

The title of my essay is the cause and effect of using recycled products to construct buildings. I have some researches through the Internet and also books which I have borrowed from the library. Information and data are recorded and that is why I can complete my essay without a miss. From the assignment, I have learnt how to write introduction, supporting paragraphs and also conclusion with proper grammar and also vocabulary. It really costs me lots of time because I am so curious and worried about the tense and words I have used in the essay. Besides, the most important before writing an essay is that we must always be clear of what topic the essay is and what it wants. This is because some of us often come out with an out of topic essay and we do not focus enough on what we want to write. I am so happy and enjoy writing this essay assignment as it really helps me a lot and it improves my English knowledge too. 

ASSIGNMENT 2- ORAL PRESENTATION

We have chosen Los angeles, California as our city presentation. Each of the group members has prepared well and we have done our really best to give out clear information. I have talked about the hospitality and tourism of Los Angeles, California. Basically, it tells people what and how this city attracts people coming to it. I have done my part completely and so far, I think I still need to improve my English speaking skill and I should really work on that. It is very important for us to speak clearly or the people will not hear clearly and will most probably receive the wrong message or information from us.
